This project, funded by COBALAM (Rainforest Alliance) and carried out by Tropical Green Builder in collaboration with ANAFOR, aims to raise awareness and provide training on the need to restore ecosystems in the Bangou Arrondissement, located in the Western Highlands of Cameroon. This region is faced with ecosystem degradation due to unsustainable agricultural and forestry practices, exacerbated by population growth. The villages of Badenkop, Bapa and Bangou are particularly affected by ecosystem degradation, mainly due to unsustainable agricultural and forestry practices, such as inappropriate eucalyptus plantations and unsustainable exploitation of forest resources, as well as increasing demographic pressure. This situation has led to land degradation, making agricultural practices difficult and impacting waterways, biodiversity and the livelihoods of local populations.

To meet these challenges, it is imperative to implement restoration and reforestation initiatives in these villages, including sacred forests. Indeed, these forests play a crucial role in preserving local biodiversity and provide important ecosystem services to the surrounding communities. However, despite their sacred nature, these forests are also subject to pressures such as bush fires, illegal logging and a lack of interest in conservation among young people and the general population. As part of the COBALAM project (Removing Obstacles to Biodiversity Conservation, Land Restoration and Sustainable Forest Management through Community Landscape Management) funded by the Rainforest Alliance and in collaboration with Cameroon's National Forestry Development Agency (ANAFOR), Tropical Green Builder organized a series of conferences, awareness-raising workshops and training sessions in the region. The aim was to raise awareness among local players and all parties concerned of the economic and environmental opportunities associated with reforestation and ecosystem restoration in the district and the region.
